G4 Does It Again

Looks like G4, the network that merged with TechTV after the ComCast merger, is going to continue to butcher the network (now G4TechTV) into some mindless crap that no one wants to watch. I find it very hard to believe that more people are watching that pathetic excuse of programming G4 brought to the table that the old TechTV shows like Unscrewed and The Screen Savers.

G4’s site is garbage. Their programming is disgusting and boring. Their whole approach is just plain awful.

The first mistake was getting rid of Leo Laporte. Who is the idiot that is making these decisions? Anyone in marketing or branding with half a brain cell knows that a cult following is a huge asset. G4 and ComCast have successfully destroyed the cult of loyal viewers that once swore by TechTV.

Apparently G4 doesn’t see any value in having an intelligent audience anymore. They never had one with G4 and now they want to kill the remaining from the TechTV cult. They want gamers, and only gamers. Possibly throw in some gadget kids in there too. They want to say “This is the next game, go buy it” and instantly have a legion of lemmings run out and purchase it. Not from just any store, mind you. Only from EB Games, or whichever company ends up being the highest bidder.

At any rate, I’ve been watching less and less of the remnants of TechTV since it has been under the control of G4, and I imagine that number will go to zero very soon. The Screen Savers will no doubt be removed from my TiVo’s Season Pass Manager very shortly.

So sad.
