I recently picked up some new running gear in order to get back into the game (see: Couch to 5k in Six Weeks) after some horrid slacking.
After reading a post by Michael Heilemann my interest in the Nike+ equipment was sparked.? If you know me, you know I can’t control myself when I get interested, thus I immediately ran out and bought the iPod accessories and some Nike+enabled shoes.? Granted, you really don’t need the shoes for it to work, in my opinion, but I like when things are all nice and perfectly organized.? I wasn’t about to be ghetto and tape down the sensor under the sole of my regular running shoes.
Anyway, after using this system a couple times I must say: amazing.? I don’t know why, but I love it.? I guess I just love collecting detailed metrics on anything.? Statistics and graphing always make any activity more fun!? Woo science!
My first run was eerily accurate without any calibration required.? I do have rather long legs (I’m like 6′4″) though, so prior to the second test run I thought I’d calibrate my walk and run on the treadmill, where I can accurately measure distance and speed and then cross-reference that to the Nano settings.
After calibration (which was retardedly simple), my Nike+ system is pretty much perfecto.? I have joined Michael’s Zero2Hero Flickr Group to be part of a little community (features which the Nike+ site really need to get with it on!).
I’m planning on doing a quick mile-ish run around the route I call “Neighborhood Recon” just outside my house about 3 times per week.? I also want to get out to the larger routes at some of the major parks around here in order to sort of test my level as I go.

Nice job. I was up to a 10k back in the beginning of January. I haven’t touched my running shoes since then. I think its because of a crazy busy work schedule + the fact that I have new running shoes which makes blisters on my heals.. not fun.
