Dynamic Stock Prices in Articles

This is pretty hip, take a look at this article, Google in focus as Net stocks succumb. Not the article content, but the AJAX stock prices next to the symbols (GOOG: 427.50, +2.90, +0.7%)

Yes that’s right, they update live as you’re reading the article. Yes, it’s somewhat slow and jumpy. But it’s still neat in that Web 1.99RC3 type of way. I’m starting to think of a great number of applications where these little AJAXified elements could happen. We’re starting to see more and more “non-movement” web apps going on. Where editing, creating, advancing data doesn’t need to move you from your primary objective — in this case reading the article.

MarketWatch can now hold me on the page, without worrying about the 100’s of links to stock metrics present in every one of their articles. I can just hover or glance and get live updates. That’s progress if you ask me.
