I might be the only one who longs for this or whose workflow would benefit from it but I think Apple should take note anyway (for me, damnit!).
Here’s the problem: I have a dual display setup on my PowerMac and when I’m into some heavy reading and browsing, I often have two Safari windows open — one on each display. I move between them and organize my thought stream accordingly. For example, I could be using one window as a reference point and work from it, while my other window held the rest of the tabs that I was working on.
To accomplish this I quickly copy the URL in window 1, open a new window (Cmd+N) and paste the URL in window 2. I then move window 2 across to the other monitor and can then use it as a reference point for whatever I’m working on.
This might not sound so bad — it’s actually not, but I’m talking about serious insane usability here. That’s what I want.
So here is my rather simple solution.
Step One

Here we have our tab bar in Safari 2.0 (Google, Vocino.com and Wikipedia). Let’s say we have some results displayed in Google (the first tab) and we want to make a new window of it and put it on the other display so that we can reference the material easily while posting to Vocino.com (on the second tab). So we’re going to click and hold on the Google tab.
Step Two

After we have a hold on our tab, all we need to do is drag it out of the tab bar and into any space on the desktop (anywhere that isn’t the tab bar). As you can see our remaining tabs slide gracefully over to the left like they should.
Step Three

In this case we’re going to drag our tab right below the tab bar, however, if we wanted to we could have dragged it over to the other display, down to the lower part of the screen out of the way, or to any location where you might want to save for reference later.
We’re now going to let go of our tab.
Step Four

As you can see, our tab then morphs into a new independent window capable of supporting additional tabs. The process can be reversed so tabs can be arranged and organized, not just within one window but across all your open Safari windows.
Like I said, some people might not understand a real purpose for this but I would definitely benefit from it. So Apple, wanna help me out?

I would love that, along with being able to ’sync current workspace with .mac’, so I could seamlessly switch between my Mac mini and Powerbook.

Easy. Just install Saft! Reorder your tabs how you like, and drag tabs from one tabbar to another!

Wow Jon!
I can’t believe I didn’t know about that. I’ll definitely be installing, this is great!

Travis, they already have that.
The little icon in your address bar can be dragged from one window to another.
Done.

This is true, but it’s not as cool as rearranging tabs.

yeah but you gotta pay for Saft.. would be great to see Apple include this option for free.. or at least some kind developer to create a plugin to drag a tab to a new window (ie, exactly like how AdiumX tabs work)
