iTunes Should Takeover Last.fm

I use Last.fm quite a bit (feel free to +friend me). I’ve logged over 10,000 played songs, and that’s after creating a new account in the not-so-distant past. I also use it for my “Playing in iTunes” list of recently played tracks at the bottom half of this site. The AudioScrobbler can almost always been seen in my menu bar.

Since I associate my Last.fm stream to what’s playing in my iTunes, it got me wondering why it’s not just living in iTunes. I know not everyone uses iTunes (although I can’t understand why not!) but still, we have Web Galleries for iPhoto included in .Mac. It seems like very nice companion functionality to iTunes.

The Soundtrack to My Stylishly Dangerous Lifestyle

I love music. In fact, there aren’t very many moments throughout the day during which I am not listening to music. Not to mention that according to new evidence in neuroscience, Music Makes Your Brain Happy. I always have iTunes rolling some beats during the day on my MacBook Pro. In the office I rock the AirTunes throughout the workday. At home my PowerMac lays down tracks throughout the entire house via AirTunes as well. (PS: I lost my iPod Nano, wtf?)

For a good while, I streamed whatever I was listening to through a ShoutCast server for friends to listen to. I may start that again eventually but for now I’ve become obsessed with cataloging my tastes in audio with Last.fm‘s iScrobbler. Everything is neatly organized on my ever-growing ever-evolving Last.fm Profile.

iScrobbler lives on all my Macs now. I love it because it requires no thinking. It just does its thing.

Yes, I realize Last.fm is old news by now. I think I first heard about it over a year ago. Now that I’m really into my blog again though, I just couldn’t resist showing off my Latest iTunes (as seen on the homepage of my site, sidebar).

If you have a populated Last.fm profile, link it up and let’s be friends. I’m interested in other people’s daily music streams.
