Microsoft on Geometry

2005 05 12 Technology Personaltech Xbox360 Xbox InstoryMicrosoft introduces next generation Xbox: The Xbox.. 360? It’s a box. It’s square. Maybe I’m missing the deep meaning behind this. “360″ as in it encompasses everything (feature-wise), perhaps. I realize Microsoft employs nothing but the best in marketing and design accounting, but look at this thing.

I guess I was expecting a little more from the debut of the best gaming system to date — one that will need to compete with the long awaited PlayStation 3. Is Sony going to drop the ball? Maybe that’s what Microsoft is betting on.

Although the design sucks, there are some hip features. Unfortunately a lot of the interaction between the Xbox and your existing network requires Microsoft software, which of course is going to require Windows XP.

If only Apple would make a gaming system. That would be the business.
