Goodbye Xbox 360

2005 05 16 Technology Personaltech E3 Sony Ps3It’s really too bad Microsoft decided to go full Fisherprice-mode on the new Xbox 360 because I’m a big fan of the original Xbox. Looks like the Playstation 3 is going to blow it away. Not only in specs — can’t imagine them going for anything lower than the Xbox 360 when they’re releasing later — but also in design.

The Playstation 3 looks like a sophisticated addition to my home theater, the Xbox 360 looks like it should go on the floor in a kid’s room next to the fire truck shaped bunk beds and Mickey Mouse television.

I have to say, once this new round of systems rolls out I might find myself switching back to Sony, which is good. I’m forced into the Xbox right now since the current Xbox is just better than the PS2.

Heh, so true. Though I keep having this weird thought that maybe they’ll kind of fit together when you stack one on top of the other: the Xbox 360 being concave and the PS3 being convex… but that’s just my crazy mind.

The PS3 is certainly more impressive specs-wise. Looking at about 2x the floating point power, which is a HUGE lead and good for us programmers :) Though overall graphics quality will probably be about the same, and it’s also a more complicated system (not good for us programmers).

My money’s on Sony. I should probably start saving now so I can actually afford to get one when it comes out……. :)
