I’ve come back to EvE Online and it is good. If you read this blog you know I’m always interested in space, the technological singularity, science, the market, et cetera. It’s amazing how EvE manages to land on each of these topics. Good stuff.
My character, named Onicov (creative, eh?), is Gallente of the Intaki bloodline. A graduate of the Center for Advanced Studies. He spends most of his time looking for pirates or rogue drones (machines that have taken on a life of their own) in order to collect bounty.
I’m also starting to get my trading business going. Analyzing the market trends and various solar systems’ needs and then transporting goods to those areas — buying low and selling high. Unfortunately, there’s not much cash in that yet since I don’t have an adequately large ship to transport enough trade to make a dent.
The skill system is in real-time (I’m training skills right now, 24/7) which is both good and bad. I happen to love it though, no grinding, you can semi-play while doing other — more productive — activities, which is excellent. While I like World of Warcraft and some other MMORPGs I’ve played in the past, they’re so time consuming. If you start out playing with a group of friends, everyone is at different levels and unable to really play together unless significant effort is made to stick together and wait for each other after leveling. On that note, in EvE everyone plays in the same HUGE (really, it’s freaking massive) universe so there’s no “What server are you on… I already have a level 45 on another server” problems.
Check out the free 14-day trial and see if it’s something you might be interested in. Be sure to send me an in-game evemail (to “Onicov”) and let me know.
